Danbury High School threat prompts debate over when to warn parents

A parent who used social media to share what she knew about a shooting threat at Danbury High School -- which police already had deemed unfounded -- is raising larger questions about how educators share such information with the public in the post-Sandy Hook era. At issue is whether social media's capacity to take a message viral makes it necessary for educators to publicly announce all threats -- regardless of their credibility -- to keep rumors from spiraling out of control.
