Publicly reported school threats have increased by 150 percent nationwide this year, according to one recent survey, and Connecticut's top police officials want to know why. It may be that the sharp increase in threats to schools, such as the recent threat to "shoot up" Danbury High School , is part of a pattern of temporary surges experts saw after the massacres at Columbine High School in 1999 and Virginia Tech in 2007.
