Crime up on Metro-North trains

Photo: Carol Kaliff MTA report on crime at Metro-North through August 2014: * 107 felonies compared to 91 for same period in 2013 * 29 of 72 grand larcenies were aboard trains * 5 involved shoplifting in Grand Central Terminal * 17 involved railroad property, including theft of tools and copper * 52 of the reported thefts were for unattended personal property * 54 million riders used the trains during that period Crime is up slightly on Metro North trains compared to the same period a year ago, but a commuter advocate and railroad officials stress that riders are safe.
