A Newtown man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and threatening to shoot cops during a more than two-hour standoff over the weekend pleaded not guilty Tuesday and remains under suicide watch. Steven Hernly, 23, appeared Tuesday afternoon before Judge Susan Reynolds in state Superior Court in Danbury.
